Electricity futures prices

The price of electricity for coming months and years as it is bought and sold right now on the derivatives exchange. These are the market's current view — not a forecast of what electricity will end up costing.

Exchange prices are VAT-free, as this is trading between companies. On this page 25.5% VAT has been added so the figures are comparable with the other prices on the site. The figure is energy only: the seller's margin, transfer and electricity tax come on top.

For a finished month the figure is not an expectation but what electricity actually cost. The running month is still a market price, because it has not ended.

A futures price is the market's estimate at the time, not a forecast that comes true as such. This box shows how that estimate played out for the most recently expired month.
